In Memoriam

Mario Cefalu, owner of Soluntos Bakery on India Street and founding father of this festival, passed away in March, 2007.
Mario was born in Portocello in Sicily. Decades ago, he established Solunto's Italian Bakery on India Street in the heart of San Diego's Little Italy-- a bakery whose wonderful Sicilian breads and pastries enriched many a family table, restaurant, wedding or special event. Known far and wide, everyone knew to go to Solunto's for authentic Italian bread and pastries! His dream to create an authentic Sicilian Festival in the streets of San Diego's Little Italy has been fulfilled. Each year brings more visitors and more ambiance to our wonderful festival. We know Mario's generous and kind soul we be looking down from heaven as we pay yet another tribute to the heritage of Sicilian Americans, part of San Diego's rich ethnic history.

Pace all'Anima Sua
Dearest Mario, Rest In Peace
